What to do if you have 1 or 2 days in Surabaya

The Best Choice tour Surabaya

Bromo is the most scenic destination in East Java, characterized by its beautiful sunrise and dramatic mountainous terrain. The gray volcano-capped peaks, caves, and picturesque mountains have inspired authors including 5cm about Mount Semeru.

Spend 5 days in this gorgeous National Park, and you’ll never run out of things to see and do. If you only have a couple of days, make sure you don’t miss these sights and activities.

1 DAY IN Surabaya | THE MUST-DO’S

With its local houses, mountainous terrain, and surrounding clouds, Bromo boasts everything you’d expect from a village in East Java. It’s renowned for its welcoming people, unique boutique shops, and frequent excursions to nearby trails and activities ranging from bike and hikes to horse rides.

Your first mission has to be to visit some of the area’s sunrise spots. Some mountains have carved National Parks through mountains as high as more than 3000 meters above sea level. The most famous sunrise spot view in Surabaya, however, are the Pananjakan 1 and 2.

Usually, the more challenging the hike, the more rewarding the view. But you can expect to be mesmerized by picturesque villages, volcano craters and some of the most scenic natural sights in Java regardless of which trail you choose.

The Madakaripura waterfall

The Madakaripura Waterfall cascades from a height of nearly 100 meters, making them visible from almost 1 km within the village. Most of the water turns to mist before reaching ground level, adding to the mysterious allure of this natural attraction. The falls are covered by higher ground and forest, making for a magical view in the afternoon.

From Bromo Crater, you can take the chance to meander over 30 minutes ground-level. Most trails take between 1 and two hours to complete. You can trek as far as the local build road to reach to lips of the cliff and waterfall.

If you have only one day to spend in Surabaya, make it a hiking day. You won’t regret it.

IF YOU HAVE MORE TIME | LOCAL EXPERIENCES

Even when you’ve walked ‘til your heart’s content, there’s still loads to do in Surabaya. Fans of city history shouldn’t miss the opportunity to have a bite at local cuisine in Hotel Majapahit, which is featured in ‘Colonial Style Building’s Secret Service. It’s located in the most historical building in Surabaya, offering the best experience of early 19’s century taste.

After lunch, make your way over to Surabaya Hero Monument. This incredible Surabaya memoir of the war appears as Indonesia fought against colonialism. Take a free guided tour around the area, and you’ll see why they inspired Indonesian youngsters in the future. The museum is relatively small, making them an excellent place to visit if you have just a couple of hours in Surabaya. Try the local coffee Java Arabica pastries to re-energize after touring this monument.

Adventure sports are a huge draw for visitors to Surabaya. Do you prefer rafting or Karapan Sapi or cow race performance (only in the season)? Or, would you rather glide over and around them? Some of the more popular activities are Snorkeling and windsurfing. If you’re short on time, take a 40-minute windsurfing tour from the legend of Surabaya in Kenjeran. Have several hours to spare? Half and full-day excursions depart from Surabaya and Madura.

If you haven’t yet planned your trip to the East Java, make sure you take a look at our online Surabaya and Bromo to customize your ultimate Surabaya trip. It’s the easiest way to plan and book a trip and visit some of Surabaya’s best locations.

[:en]Dutch Colonial Palembang SightSeeing (Palembang City Tour)[:id]Dutch Colonial Palembang Sight Seeing Tour[:]

‘Dutch Colonial Palembang Sight Seeing’

I hope you are ready for our today’s tour, All of the colonial buildings we will visit are located in downtown Palembang, in other words, former Dutch Colonial Palembang proper, and are positioned relatively close to one another.

The simple grid pattern of the city’s layout makes it easy to find one’s way around. That’s why the best way to explore Colonial Palembang is by bicycle or scooter (recommended) not by foot or car.

Another reason for bicycling instead of using a car is that the permanent traffic jams and a chronic lack of parking space in this area make the car more a curse than a blessing.

We cant see all colonial buildings, for this would be much helping by reading this article.

The tour I have planned for today includes 3 major buildings that bear testimony to Palembang’s present days and Palembang’s glorious colonial past.

All of them belong to the most precious jewels of Dutch Colonial Palembang’s treasure trove.

And, please, if you want to do yourself a favor make plenty of photos of them because it will definitely be the last time that you have the chance to see the buildings as they are.

In the not-so-far future, there will a yet unknown number of them be completely disappeared, totally run down, or ‘restored’ in a way that leaves nothing of their partly still existing, leave alone former, colonial charm.

We will, of course, see a lot of other parts still beautiful old colonial buildings that have interesting stories to tell, but have to keep a focus on those I have selected for our tour; we will otherwise be too distracted and not get ready today.

OK, the starting point of our walkthrough Dutch Colonial Palembang will be the former Palembang General Residence, Museum Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II. From there we continue to the Ampera Bridge, located in the direct neighborhood of the Water station, then to the former Plumbing Office Building, and so on.

When we arrive at the buildings I will give you some related basic information. There is, of course, a lot more to say about the buildings and their history but this article does not provide enough space for all these details.

Palembang is a city on Sumatra Island that is divided into two by the Musi River, the Ulu side, and the Ilir side. This geographical situation has made the water transportation system a part of the people’s daily life.

Along both banks of the Musi River, there used to be moored raft dwellings, called Rakit, some of which served as shops. The houses along the banks stand facing the water and are built on stilts. Because of its orientation toward the river, the city has an elongated profile along both sides and does not stretch far inland.

This Venice of the East located an important trade artery between India and China since ancient times and has determined the character of Palembang as a port city.

Now the two sides of the city are connected by one big bridge, AMPERA, which is short for Amanat Penderitaan Rakyat.

Visiting Palembang means that you can pamper yourself with the delicious fishcake Pempek, as you can find this kind of food everywhere, from street vendors to fancy restaurants. You can also see what remains from the glorious Sri Wijaya Kingdom in Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum located on the side of the Musi River.

Near the Museum, you can see a building called Benteng Kuto Besak, which used to be the residence of the Palembang Darussalam kings in the 18th century.

From the Museum area, continue your walking trip to Mesjid Agung.

An architectural proof of the acculturation of Chinese, native Palembang and modern cultures in a harmonious way.

Built-in 1738, this greatest mosque in Indonesia of that time has continually been rebuilt and renovated. The last renovation in the year 2000 has given the touch of the 21th-century style to this unique mosque.

One thing that you shouldn’t miss when visiting Palembang is seeing people weaving Songket, the traditional Palembang sarong.

Take a bicycle ride to Jl. Ki Gede Ing Suro, on the way, you can see several of Palembang’s traditional houses, limas houses, with their unique roof shape.

To those of you who are not familiar with waterway transportation, a Musi Tour is possibly the most exciting tourist attraction in Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra Province, Indonesia.

Musi River is one of the major rivers in Indonesia and the longest river on the Island of Sumatra. It divides Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra Province, into the Upper (Ulu) Area and Lower (Ilir) Area of Palembang.

On this river stretches one of the longest bridges in Indonesia, the Ampera Bridge, which connects the Upper Area and the Lower Area of Palembang.

Diving In Indonesia is The Capital Diving Centre of the World

[:en]

Indonesia is the place to be if you want to go scuba diving.

The place boasts of being one of the top scuba diving destinations in the whole world. The reason behind this is that it has around 20 percent of the worlds coral reefs nestled deep within its waters. Indonesia is made up of many islands, with the number reaching to 13,000 that are both occupied and deserted.
It also boasts of the longest coastline of a country in comparison to the whole world. Having said this, it is only natural that to get the maximum scuba diving experience, you will have to pay Indonesia a visit.

If you choose Indonesia as your scuba diving destination, you will be able to witness more than 3,000 types of fishes and 450 species of corals. Whether you are a casual diver or you do this for a living, you will find that scuba diving in Indonesia will give you one of the best experiences you can ever get. The volcanic underwater mountains and the macro life will take your breath away. There are nearly a thousand scuba diving sites scattered around the shores which give you plenty of areas to explore.
There are two most notable diving destinations in Indonesia. These are the Komodo and Bali.

Wakatobi –

This island has made it through so many features and is considered a wonder even explored in movies. This is a place of great diversity. Diving in Wangi-wangi, Kaledupa, Tomea and Binongko will bring you face to face with so many kinds of coral reefs of different colors and sizes. The shallow reefs are filled with marine life. If you are lucky or unlucky, depending on how you see it, you might even sport a shark or two.
Other sea life that you may see includes sunfish, clown frogfish, eagle rays, colorful sponges and blue-ringed octopus.

Freediving at Tomia - Wakatobi
Bali –

considered to be one of the most beautiful summer destinations in the whole world, Bali is as popular as a diving destination as much as it is popular as a beach destination. Shore-based diving is extremely popular in Bali if you are the more adventurous type.
Should you choose Bali, you will be delighted to find out that there are a lot of vertical drop-offs, coral ridges, seagrass beds and one of the worlds prized wrecks.
Scuba diving in Bali is available all year round but if you want to get the special treatment, the best time to go diving in Bali is around April through December. The thing is, if it is raining, you would not be able to see as much underwater. However, if you want to see certain marine life like sunfish or sharks then your best bet would be to go from June to September.

Diving in Indonesia cannot be matched by any other destination. The diversity and beauty of Indonesia paired with the unbelievably abundant choices for drop-offs, scuba diving in Indonesia will be an experience you will never forget.

Slap bang in the middle of the ‘Coral Triangle’ of diversity that extends from Australia to the Philippines and across to Borneo and into the South Pacific, Indonesia is generally accepted to be the world’s best country for sea life. Indonesia has more marine diversity than anywhere on earth and is at the core of the ocean’s heart, where the marine variety suggests life in the sea began.

With 20% of the world’s coral reefs, over 3,000 different species of fish and 600 coral species, deep water trenches, volcanic sea mounts, World War II wrecks, and an endless variety of macro life, scuba diving in Indonesia is both excellent and inexpensive.

You can dive here now and experience all the wondrous fish and other marine life in these nutrient-rich seas. From encounters with big pelagics around the cool waters of Komodo, cruising over pristine fields of coral in Raja Ampat, marveling at the enormous volumes of fish in the Banda Islands, to photographing the outrageous critters of Sulawesi, Indonesia diving is unsurpassable.

There are packages to suit all needs including resort diving in Bali and Sulawesi where you can stay in comfort on the doorstep of world-class dive sites where marine biologists, photographers and pleasure divers come to marvel and the species numbers and variety.
For many, diving is best on one of the liveaboards to Komodo and beyond, into the seemingly unchartered territory of Irian Jaya. These trips offer the chance to cruise over crystal seas from Bali to the legendary islands of Komodo and Rinca where the dragons of folklore roam. Beyond Komodo lies some of the most exhilarating frontier scuba diving there is, around the Banda Islands and Raja Ampat where there are few boats and only serious pleasure-seeking divers. Fantastic diving is virtually assured.
Highlights
Such a vast and varied destination as Indonesia is very difficult to limit to just a few highlights but any consideration of a dive holiday here should bear in mind at least the following areas:

Raja Ampat –

one of the few destinations left which truly allows you to feel like you are a pioneer – to boldly dive where no man has dived before. You can marvel at the incredible topside scenery of Irian Jaya, sail through waters where so few boats venture and experience some of the most impressive Indonesia scuba diving… and therefore the world. For those who want to get away from it all and dive in a remote paradise but not compromise on comfort then Raja Ampat liveaboards are the choice for you.

Komodo National Park –

the islands of myth and legend where dragons roam, are surrounded by rich nutrient-filled waters where a kaleidoscope of color and life awaits you. Mantas, dolphins, and sharks compete with critters galore, all against a riot of soft coral colors. Komodo liveaboard trips allow you to visit the many varied sites around this awesome marine park, some starting in Bali and visiting all the best sites along the way.
